RAPHA CHARPENTIER - LATINO MINISTRY PASTOR

email

Rafael, Zaida and their daughter Katharina moved to Decatur from Costa Rica in 2007. The Lord called Rafael to serve at Decatur Baptist Church as Latino Pastor. He strongly believes that all his former works, ministries, places where he lived, and what he studied, learned, lived, served, experienced and suffering was the hand of the Lord shaping him for his ministry here at DBC.

Rafael was saved in 1985 in a Youth meeting in Costa Rica when he was 13 years old. The same day he came to know Jesus as his personal Savior he decided to serve Him full-time. At seventeen, Rafael began to serve the Lord as a Sunday School Teacher. In 1989 he heard about the ministry of Word of Life Costa Rica and became a Leader in a Youth Bible Club. In 1992 he became part of the ministry of Word of Life in Costa Rica as a lay helper.

During those years he knew deeply in his heart that the Lord had called him to serve full time in the ministry. In April of 1999, he traveled to the Word of Life Bible Institute in Argentina to complete his Bible and Theology studies. There he met his future wife Zaida Gomez.

While in Argentina Rafael served as a preacher, teacher and youth leader in a little Church in Quilmes, Buenos Aires. In 2002 after graduating from the Bible Institute, he came back to Costa Rica and started to be a full time missionary of Word of Life Costa Rica where he served for five years.

In 2005 he married Zaida Gomez, a former classmate of the Bible Institute that was serving as a missionary in Word of Life Venezuela.

In 2006 he and his wife left Word of Life and became missionaries of SCORE International in Costa Rica preaching the gospel and helping with the American mission teams.

After his relationship with the Lord, the most important thing on Earth for Rafael is his family. He is deeply in love with his wife Zaida. He said that she is a dream come true. Another “dream come true” in his life is his little baby, Katharina.
