Rafael Charpentier - Latino Ministry Pastor
“Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.” Psalm 73:25-26

Rafael, Zaida Charpentier and their daughter Katharina moved to Decatur from Costa Rica in April 2008 to serve the Lord at Decatur Baptist Church. Rafael is the Pastor to the Latino Ministry in our church.
Rafael was raised in Costa Rica but also lived for several years in Argentina, where he got his Theology education. When he was 13 years old, he was saved at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Costa Rica in 1985 during a youth meeting. The same day that he came to know Jesus as his personal Savior, he decided to serve Him full time some day; but first he had to finish his education. A few years after that, he began to serve the Lord as a Sunday School Teacher while he was in High School. During his college years, he began to serve the Lord part time as Youth Leader in his church, but since 1999 he has been full time in some capacity in ministry as a student of the Bible, missionary, associate pastor, preacher and evangelist.
In 2005 Rafael married Zaida Gomez, a former classmate. They met in 1999 in Argentina during their Bible training. Before Zaida and Rafael married, she was serving as a missionary in Venezuela. Rafael and Zaida share the same Theology education and same calling to serve the Lord. He deeply loves his wife and says she is just a special gift of the grace of the Lord to him.
